Welcome to today’s Friday Hi-5 Features! Each week we will explore the best picks in the following categories: technology/tool; fiction book; non-fiction book; post of the week; and offline inspiration.
This week, Let’s mix it up and chat about a “digital housekeeping” theme. We have recently entered a beautiful new season, so why not start out on the right foot?
Inventory of Social Assets
With networks and new tools popping into existence faster than one can count, take inventory of where you currently have a profile and make note of what networks or areas you actually engage. What profiles need to be deleted and updated? Also, take time to install updates as needed.
A week does not pass that I don’t see someone’s account being hacked! Be vigilant about resetting your passwords on a consistent basis. Schedule tasks in your calendar over the next 6-9 months to make sure you don’t forget!
Review Privacy Settings
Not all profiles or content I create or share is for all eyes. Familiarize yourself with the privacy settings of all your networks. Be smart about what you are posting. Take some time this weekend and read the newest book from Jeff Jarvis, Public Parts. The way you perceive privacy is not the same as the person sitting next to you.
Sort through and update or build new lists and circles so you share the right content with the right people at the right time. Add fresh voices into the mix and filter and prioritize your content so more of the great and actionable information rises to the top.
Go from being an aggregator to a curator of content. Time to update those stacks and tags so you can find the right blend of information and resources in a timely manner.
What have I missed? Add your steps below. Have tips, tricks or tools to help with this digital housekeeping endeavor? Please share on the Google+ thread.
