Of course that does not keep the blogosphere from predicting!
While re-reading my blog post archives (beg. February 2006), the question of my role in the communications world kept resurfacing. I am suffering from multiple personalities. Geoff does a fantastic summary of the most recent conversations around the blogosphere about communication roles and responsibilities.
I found this definition of convergence:
Biology The adaptive evolution of superficially similar structures, such as the wings of birds and insects, in an unrelated species subjected to similar environments. Also called convergent evolution.
Too bad I am not a better graphic designer because I have this awesome visual of a morphed communicator!
We are in a constant state of convergence. Our skills are evolving each day. As we grow into these skills, are we outgrowing others? By slapping labels and limits on roles and responsibilities we may stunt the learning process. On the flip side, becoming an expert at everything is failure of knowledge of anything. Are we overdosing on communication skills to be a jack of all trades and diluting our trades?
My rope is frayed because of all the tug-of-war.
"Perhaps because faith is not a tangible concept, practitioners must mold the thoughts of customers. All I can envision right now is The Borg from Star Trek. It would really be a test of our profession if we could hold a conversation with our customers, wouldn’t it? Let them speak and lead the conversation?"
